Kalana Limkin, an 18-year-old from Hilo, Hawaii, was recently arrested and charged with founding and leading an online cult involved in the promotion of self-harm, child pornography, and a campaign to end civilization. The arrest followed a seven-month-long FBI investigation into Limkin’s activities. He made his initial court appearance on Monday in U.S. District Court.
Origins and Criminal Activities of the Cult
Limkin was the target of a Federal Bureau of Investigation probe that began in May after he was identified as being involved in soliciting child pornography and imagery of self-harm from minors. He had been reported multiple times to the Internet Crimes Against Children Cyber Tipline for uploading child pornography. One disturbing image included a pre-pubescent girl with “rape” written on her abdomen. Limkin admitted to possessing child pornography and creating the online group “Cultist,” which encouraged self-harm and cutting among minor girls.
Targeting and Exploiting Minors
In June, a minor victim interviewed at the Children’s Justice Center of Oahu revealed that she discovered Limkin through the online community Omeagle, which led her to his Discord server “Cultist.” Limkin shared child pornography with her and enforced rules where he made girls cut his name into their bodies, keeping a collage of these images. He was also found to have Nazi and child pornography memes in his Discord server.
Limkin’s Extremist Beliefs and Practices
Limkin was allegedly associated with the groups known as “CVLT” and “764,” and identified himself as the founder of “Cultist.” This group was focused on promoting child pornography, exploitation, and other criminal activities, including doxing, swatting, manipulation, and animal cruelty. Assistant U.S. Attorney Mohammad Khatib described Limkin as adhering to the beliefs of “764,” a radical offshoot of the satanic anarchist group, The Order of Nine Angles. This group espouses the destruction of society and encourages its members to engage in violent and criminal acts.
Investigation and Arrest
The FBI launched a detailed investigation into Limkin’s activities, which led to his arrest. Discord, a platform used by Limkin, reportedly has a zero-tolerance policy against content that harms children or promotes violent extremism. Discord proactively reported Limkin to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children and cooperated with law enforcement throughout the investigation. Limkin is accused of posting child sexual abuse material on Discord servers and exploiting minors through these online platforms.
