Amanyie, originating from Kaanii in the Khana Local Government Area, had been on the police watchlist since December 31, 2021. He and five other gang members were implicated in the murder of Mr. Lioneda Lebari. The gang reportedly tracked Lebari after he withdrew NGN 150,000 from a local thrift collector and subsequently attacked him at the Oil-Mill junction, where he was stabbed multiple times and left to die.

However, on December 20, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Rivers State Police acted on a tip-off and apprehended him in his hideout at Eleme.
