Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, prominent figures from the reality TV show world, have officially relinquished custody of their 15-year-old great-nephew, Tyler Wayne Hutchins. The couple had been his legal guardians since 2016 after Tyler’s mother, Rachel Hutchins, who is the daughter of Michelle’s sister Carolyn, was deemed unable to care for him. However, recent court documents indicate a significant change in Tyler’s guardianship.

In June, Jim Bob, 58, and Michelle, 57, agreed to transfer guardianship of Tyler to his biological grandparents, Carolyn and John Hutchins. This decision was recently ratified by an Arkansas judge, making the custody change official. The court found it in the best interest of Tyler to appoint his grandparents as the permanent guardians to protect both him and his estate.

The official court documents highlighted the incapacity of Tyler’s parents to meet his needs and maintain control over him and his estate. Rachel, Tyler’s mother, has consented to this guardianship arrangement, and visitation rights will be determined among the parties involved. Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar have cooperated with the legal process, signing a Waiver of Notice and Consent to Guardianship.

The transfer of custody comes after the Duggars initially took in Tyler following his grandmother’s stroke in July 2016, which left her unable to care for him. At that time, Tyler’s mother, Rachel, was facing significant challenges, including homelessness, unemployment, and legal issues, making her unable to provide for Tyler’s needs.

The Duggars’ time as Tyler’s guardians has seen them managing his finances, including a savings account and ownership of a vehicle. They have submitted an accounting report detailing Tyler’s financial situation during their guardianship, emphasizing that they have not benefited from his estate.

Tyler, who has been featured on the Duggar family’s Instagram, seemed to have integrated well into the family over the years. The family has celebrated milestones like his 13th birthday, indicating a close-knit relationship. However, with the new guardianship arrangement, Tyler is set to start a new chapter of his life under the care of his grandparents, John and Carolyn Hutchins.

As this transition takes place, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar continue to face public scrutiny and legal challenges related to other family matters. The change in Tyler’s custody is a significant development in the ongoing narrative of the Duggar family, one that reflects the complex dynamics and legal considerations involved in guardianship and family care.
